Wireless Network and Internet Access

UML Home >   IT Home > Wireless Networking Printer Friendly Printer Friendly

Wireless networking allows you to connect your laptop or other wireless device to the UMass Lowell wireless network.  Wireless computing devices include laptops, notebooks, tablets, personal digital assistants (PDAs), e-mail-only devices, handheld computers, "wearable" technology and hybrids of any of these. UMass Lowell currently only supports laptop wireless connection and certain PDAs.  When a school environment is wireless, students are able to use computing devices anywhere within range of the wireless hub or access point (AP) to connect to the Internet and school's networks.  The locations where wireless access is available are called hot spots.

Wireless networking provides mobility and flexibility to faculty and students.  This added convenience allows you to read email, manage your classes or search the library beyond the confines of your office or dorm.  Use the links below to help you get started using the wireless network or contact the Help Desk for assistance.

University Standards for Wireless Devices
